StockLens: A Step-by-Step Guide
Your All-in-One Research Dashboard
StockLens is a beautifully designed, all-in-one dashboard that makes deep research a pleasure, not a chore. It’s the perfect next step for the ideas you find in the Watchlist Builder, giving you the full story on any company before you commit to testing a strategy with the Best Strategy Finder.
How It Works: A Central Hub for Research
Using StockLens is simple: just enter a ticker symbol in the top-left corner. The tool will then populate all the tabs with comprehensive data for that company. The left sidebar allows you to navigate between different categories of information instantly.
Understanding the Data Tabs
Summary
This is your command center for a first impression. It answers the question: "What's the big picture?" Here you'll find the company's story in its own words, key vital signs like Market Cap and P/E Ratio, and a price chart to immediately see if you're looking at a stock in an uptrend, a downtrend, or going nowhere.
News
Context is everything. This tab answers: "What's happening with this company right now?" It streams the latest headlines, allowing you to instantly spot any recent catalysts—like an earnings surprise, a new product launch, or an industry-wide development—that could be driving the stock's price.
Trailing Returns
This tab answers the simple but crucial question: "Has this been a winning stock?" It shows you the stock's historical performance over multiple timeframes and, importantly, compares it against its sector and the S&P 500. This tells you if the stock has been a leader, a laggard, or just average.
Historical Data
For the data-driven investor who wants to go deeper. This tab answers: "Can I see the raw numbers?" It provides a clean table of historical price and volume data that you can customize by date and even download for your own offline analysis in a spreadsheet.
Financials
This is where you look under the hood of the business. It answers: "Is this a healthy, growing company?" You can view the full Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement on a quarterly or annual basis to assess revenue growth, profitability, and debt levels.
Financial Ratios
This tab translates the raw financial statements into meaningful, comparable metrics. It answers: "How does this company stack up?" It's broken down into key categories:
- Profitability: Ratios like Return on Equity (ROE) and Net Profit Margin show how efficiently the company turns revenue into profit.
- Liquidity: Ratios like the Current Ratio show if the company can comfortably pay its short-term bills.
- Leverage: Ratios like Debt-to-Equity show how much debt the company uses, which can be an indicator of risk.
- Valuation: Key metrics like P/E and P/S ratios help you determine if the stock is attractively priced compared to its earnings and sales.
Holders
This tab answers the question: "Who else is betting on this stock?" It shows you the top institutional holders (like mutual funds and investment banks) and corporate insiders. A high level of ownership by sophisticated, "smart money" investors can be a strong vote of confidence.
Analyst Ratings
Get a sense of the Wall Street consensus. This tab answers: "What do the professionals think?" It summarizes the ratings from professional analysts, showing you the breakdown of Buy, Hold, and Sell recommendations, as well as the average price target.
